Job Description

Seeks a Temporary Web Developer to build and maintain client-branded web properties for internal and external audiences. The role focuses on modern WordPress development, feature delivery, performance, and code quality. You will implement an AI-first workflow to improve development speed and reliability. This is a temporary assignment.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and enhance WordPress features using JavaScript and PHP.
  • Create and modify custom WordPress plugins and themes, including fixes and updates.
  • Translate stakeholder requirements into robust technical solutions.
  • Improve responsiveness, optimize performance, and resolve technical issues.
  • Conduct code reviews, write documentation, and follow secure coding standards.
  • Adopt and advocate an AI-first development workflow with modern toolsets.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience delivering WordPress sites or applications with PHP and JavaScript.
  • Hands-on experience building custom themes and plugins from scratch.
  • Proficiency in HTML and CSS with knowledge of accessibility and maintainability best practices.
  • Familiarity with WordPress architecture, including hooks, PHP APIs, the block editor, and REST API.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work independently in fast-paced environments.
  • Clear communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with WordPress VIP tooling and workflows.
  • Experience with performance optimization at scale and profiling tools.
  • Experience with custom Gutenberg blocks and modern build tooling.

Supplier Screening Questions (must be answered):

  1. Scale / largest WordPress site: What is the largest WordPress site you have deployed code to (approx. traffic/scale), and what did you ship?
  2. WordPress VIP experience: Have you shipped production sites on WordPress VIP? If yes, for how long and in what role (IC/lead)? Share 1-2 examples.
  3. VIP tools and workflows: Which WordPress VIP tools and workflows have you used? Describe briefly.
  4. Performance and scale: Describe a performance or scaling issue you solved in WordPress, how you diagnosed it, what you changed, and the result.
  5. Modern WordPress development: What is your experience with custom blocks and modern build tooling?
  6. AI tools for coding: Which AI tools do you use for coding, and how do you use them in your workflow?
