Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurse
Under the direction and supervision of the Wound and Ostomy Manager, the wound, ostomy, and continence nurse will provide safe, competent, quality care based on nursing theory and research to a designated group of patients. Responsibilities include conducting health assessments focused on wound, ostomy, and continence related care, performing focused physical assessments, developing plans of care based on diagnosis and individual client needs, recommending treatments as appropriate, assisting with the development, revisions, and evaluations of standards of care, assessing and documenting patient response to wound care, ostomy, continence, fistula, and complex wounds treatment, evaluating the quality and delivery of care provided by the clinical staff, working collaboratively with the health care team and making referrals to other disciplines as indicated, teaching, counseling, and assisting individuals and families to assume responsibility for prevention of complications as they relate to patients with ostomies, wounds, or continence problems, routinely providing comprehensive assessments of patients at risk for developing pressure injuries, initiating preventative measures, participating in Unit/Department Quality Improvement and Hospital Wide Q.I activities, providing culturally competent patient, family, and staff education consistent with cultural, ethnic, religious, and other belief systems, maintaining the security and confidentiality of data and information in accordance with patient rights policies, and performing other tasks as assigned.
Required Skills & Experience: Three to five (3-5) years' experience in healthcare. The above are in addition to RN contracted labor requirements. Ability to fully utilize BHMC's electronic record systems, equipment, and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position. Good interpersonal skills.
